The Ministry of Antiquities in Egypt have recently found the largest mummy of an animal to date.

Local archeologists found the mummy in Saqqara, a town just south of Cairo, and believe it to most likely be a lion or lioness. Saqqara is home to the word famous Step Pyramid.

The archeologists often discover mummified cats, but the recovery of a lion is rare and exciting find. Back in 2004, the first lion skeleton was found, revealing the sacred status of the animal during ancient times.

It will be exciting to see what other animal mummies will be revealed over the next few years, as they Ministry of Antiquities continue with their discoveries.
